I Thought I Was Busy

It was Monday morning, and like most weekdays around here, things were a bit hectic. This Monday was a bit different though because after carpool I had to rush to the medical center where my mom was having surgery. And, it was raining with flash flood warnings in effect until late afternoon. I was trying to persuade S&O to get a move on proclaiming I am just too busy for them to dawdle through their breakfast. It was then that S looked me right in the eye, placed her hand on her hip and said, "You're too busy?  I'm busy." Slightly amused by her revelation, I asked just what she thought made her so busy. S then proceeded to provide a full account of her day. "I have to finish my breakfast, put on my shoes, let Bella (the dog) in from outside, get my backpack organized, sit in carpool, go to school and spend the whole day reading, writing and doing paperwork, come home, practice piano, do my homework, and maybe if I am lucky watch a little TV or play with O, eat dinner, take a bath, read a book, go to bed, then wake up and do it all over again!" I paused for a moment rather taken aback by the accounting of her day to come. In my silence, she asks, "What do you have to do other than visit Granny at the hospital, Mommy?" I debated how to respond, but in the end decided to give her this one.  After all, her day did seem pretty darn busy.

It's amazing how six year olds can put us in our place!
